We had a reunion the last July 17th to celebrate 10 the years that had past after ending high school. We always belong to the same classroom... for 11 years. After that time we cannot be just class-mates, or even friends... we are brothers. Now, we're looking forward to gather more of ur class... we've been more than just the 20 u can see here. I'll post something alike within 10 years... :P

F n Ilo, Perú - Starting (part 1)

...y ahora he venido a parar a Ilo. Propongo acompañarlos con un jugo de fruta de natural y galletas :P ...so now i'm in the city of Ilo, you can check the map below for a better reference :) this time is not about a pleasure, touristic or familiar trip... now i've come beacuse of work. It's a new one, as i explained in the last post regarding so... and to save words about how my days pass by here, i give u the pics. take them with cookies and natural juice

This trip began on July 3rd 2010. My bus departed at 15:00, but it's not the one u see below... it was the one that departed previosly :P mine looks exactly the same

I came to be involved in the project named Quellaveco, that belongs to the company Anglo American. Find more info about my job in my previous post.

This last pic is my bedroom, it looks tidy because i haven't had enough time to make it messy :P i'll try not to accumulate stuff and toys so it can remain looking this nice. NOOOOOOOO.......... Having a private bathroom is great, but inside it i found the worst of the house and the trip... really... THE WORST... and it is that there is no hot water!!! aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!! no hot water!!!!!!! ...i do take showers, come on... but it's psychologically stressing and exhausting... i have to repeat to myself that is good to be clean and that i won't die by hipethermia. NO HOT WATER!!!! AAAAAHHHHHHH :'(

Right before the World Cup Final game i went outside to see what's going on... and i happen to be just 4 blocks away from the seaside! :D (now, i need help with this translation because "Malecón" refers to the path/way/road that goes parallel to the ocean). Even when there was this cold wind, i could make it to walk a bit and got nice views that tried to capture into my lens... and i just realized i need a better camera.. i didn't go our before because it¡s usually cloudy in the afternoon and i don't like pics with gray sky :P.

(and apparently, of being outside Lima) is the movie market! (not market as a place, but as the interrelation between offer and demand). These 2 dvds cost S/. 2,00 each, and i got 15 movies in both of them... only for S/. 4,00... great! awesome! spoko! :D (well, as far as we leave the ethical discussion about piracy). If i manage to get all the movies i need to watch, i think i can pay my debt with the world cinema industry in a year, and under a cost-effective method.

i'll keep posting about the trip from time to time.. i didn't want to write so much this time :P

PhD comic strip - got geek?

What better than just showing what it cannot be described so well with words and definitions? not really "Doctor in Philosophy"... but "Piled Higher and Deeper" (PhD). This is a comic strip about life (or the lack thereof) in academia that i got into thanks to Pame (Gandalf's). The 1st comic strip i read was hilarious... but u need to be at least 50% geek to understand... and to enjoy this (yeah, something like The Big Bang Theory but in comic and without the great Sheldon). Few art works can explain so well what many people can't understand... and they even make graphs to show us the wisdom :D

Who are these guys (who write and draw the comic)? on its website they mention "The Matrix" to define who they are: "we are everyone, and we are no one". Piled Higher and Deeper is kept alive and growing by the fans: the legions of grad students who believe there is more to life than research--the vast underground of unsung heroes who support PhD by spreading the word, buying the books, wearing the merchandise. Our hats off to you, dear reader. They are proud to procrastinate with you.
From About Piled Higher and Deeper, but edited.

Procrastination refers to the counterproductive deferment of actions or tasks to a later time. Psychologists often cite such behavior as a mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting or completing any task or decision. Schraw, Wadkins, and Olafson have proposed three criteria for a behavior to be classified as procrastination: it must be counterproductive, needless, and delaying. Procrastination may result in stress, a sense of guilt and crisis, severe loss of personal productivity, as well as social disapproval for not meeting responsibilities or commitments. These feelings combined may promote further procrastination. (...)

yeah, i know... i'm a nerd haha... or a geek, at least... but come on, u can't deny this is funny. (u understood the humor among the lines and in the psychological background of the guy in the strip, right?). do u think u are geek yourself?? The definition of geek has changed considerably over time, and there is no longer a definitive meaning. The terms nerd, gimp, dweeb, dork, and spod have similar meanings as geek, but many choose to identify different connotations amongst these terms, although the differences are disputed... but being a geek rules, not so as the others :P

About the author: Jorge Cham. He got his PhD in Mechanical Engineering at Stanford University, specializing in Robotics. His research at Stanford focused on dynamic legged "biomimetic" robots that incorporate novel manufacturing technologies and design lessons from biology. The resulting prototypes are among the fastest recorded running robots ever created (for their size), and achieve robust locomotion with no sensory feedback. Have i mentioned he is from Panamá??
