i am proud i represented my country as the only delegate on the XII World Scout Moot held in Hualien-Taiwan. i made it to Taiwan due to a scholarship offered to the Peru Scout Asociation (ASP) by the Taroko Operation. Now, on the previous post about this we left the action :) Estoy orgulloso de haber representado a mi país como su único delegado en la XII Asamblea Mundial Rover, llevada a cabo en Hualien-Taiwán. Pude participar gracias a una beca ofrecida a la Asociación de Scouts del Perú por la Operación Taroko. Ahora, en el post anterior de este tema dejamos la acción cuando mi mamá me dijo por teléfono que mi pasaporte había expirado.

With everything arranged (got visa with almost no documents and the flight ticket purchased) i just needed to get myself to Taiwan... so here, on the bottom part of the earth, you can see my flight route. My total flight time got up to 19 hours: 7 from Lima to LA and then 12 more to Tapiei, with a 6-hours-stopover in LA, where i took advantage of to visit my aunt and get to Hollywood. Con todo ya arreglado para viajar (conseguí la visa casi sin documentos y me compraron el pasaje) sólo necesitaba llegar a Taiwán, así que en la imágen siguiente se puede ver en la parte de abajo, en naranja, el recorrido de mis aviones. Hice una escala en LA de 6 horas, y el tiempo total de vuelo fue de 19: 7 de Lima a Los Ánglees y 12 de ahí hasta Taipei. Aproveché en LA para visitar a mi tía Mimi, con quien fui a Hollywood.

The best of the trip came at the end... after almost 19 hours on the air... and it is that i wanted to keep the blanket (i love those airplane blankets hehe), buy I didn't want to take it and then sneak around, so i called the flight hostess to ask for the price... and we held a conversations very alike to this one: Lo mejor del viaje vino al final, casi después de 19 horas de viaje, y es que quería quedarme con una de las frazaditas del avión (¡amo esas frazadas!), pero no quería tomarla, esconderla y darme a la fuga; así que llamé a la aeromoza para consular por el precio... y tuvimos una conversación similar a esta:

-我很抱歉... 我不明白你
-Don't u speak english?
-你會說中文嗎...？
-Supongo que tampoco español...
-這是太難過了 我不明白你 先生!
-ok... see... (then i started acting...)
(La aeromoza llega a mi sitio)-Hola, me preguntaba si era psible comprar la frazada.-我很抱歉... 我不明白你-¿No habla inglés?-你會說中文嗎-Tampoco español, ¿no?-這是太難過了 我不明白你 先生!-Bueno, mire... (y empecé a actuar)

(bah... this is better when i tell the story, so i'd need a video... but i look 6 years older now, and would b great that same moment... it was so funny!) anyway, finally i got the blanket (i'll perform the situation if you request me so when we meet). When already landed and looking for the exit gate i saw a couple of fellow scouts... so i used the worldwide scout greeting technique with them, i didn't want to create any cultural conflict. I approached slowly to avoid in them the feeling of being attacked... or the fact we southamericans can be very close and warm people :P Baaahhh.... no tiene sentido relatar esto, necesito un video... pero ahora no podría grabarlo porque me veo 6 años más viejo... pero fue tan divertido hehe) finalmente, conseguí la frazada (puedo guardar la actuación para cuando nos encontremos). Cuando aterrizamos y salí del terminal encontré a un par de scouts uniformados... así que usé la Técnica del Saludo Scout Mundial con ellos, pues no quería crear un conflicto intercultural. Me acerqué lentamente para evitar hacerlos sentir atacados... y que los sudamericanos podemos ser gente muy cercana y amigable :P

"Saludos en el Escultismo, estimados seres humanos scouts... los saluda Alfonso de Perú, pero pueden llamarme Fonchy. He venido a esta tierra con una misión, y espero tener vuestra cooperación. Deben saber que no he venido a dañarlos, y aprecio este primer encuentro con gente de su raza. Que la paz sea con ustedes..."
If you think I really spoke that way to people I don't know in a foreign country... well, I don't wanna mean there is no chance i won't speak like that... but i didn't that time :P hehe... i just started saying hi in english, since we were using our scout uniforms, and it became easier after i realized this guys were from Guatemala and Costa Rica (Renato, Víctor, ¡¡saludos!!). "why the hell are we talking in english, then!?" was the last thing we said outside spanish :P When getting out of the arriving gate there was a huuuuge group of people sitting, waiting, wishing ♫ and of course, the very funny and charming guys from Taiwan ready to say "hi" and welcome us. Espero no creas que de verdad le dije eso a gente que no conozco de un país extranjero... no porque no haya posibilidad de ello, sino sólo que esa vez no lo hice jeje. Sólo empecé saludando en inglés, y conversando me dijeron que eran de Guatemala y Costa Rica. "¿¡Qué hacemos hablando en inglés, entonces!?" casi dijimos al unísono, antes de empezar a conversar en español... Cuando salimos del control migratorio había un graaaaaan grupo de gente sentados, esperando... todos scouts! Y, por supuesto, un simpático grupo de taiwaneses se acercó a recibirnos.

We had to wait for more people to take the buses to the Registration Center in Changuan University, in the city of Linkou. I was very excited on taking part of this international event... at in this waiting room we were you could had seen scouts from EVERYWHERE: Southafrica, Mongolia, Norway, Portugal, Canada, Perú of course... I was carrying my hand recorder (i'll talk about the technology advances at that year later), and I was trying to build up a voice-blog from my trip... and it looked like a good idea to start getting people's opinions and greetings, just for fun and with no real idea about how to talk to them. Debiamos esperar por más gente para tomar los buses hacia la Universidad de Changuan, donde estaba el Centro de Registro del Moot, en la ciudad de Linkou. Yo estaba muy emocionado por participar en este evento, y en esta sala de espera habían scouts de TODO EL MUNDO: Sudáfrica, Mongolia, Noruega, Portugal, Canadá, Perú por supuesto... y llevaba conmigo una grabadora de mano (en otro momento hablaré de los avances tecnológicos del momento), y empecé a construir una bitácora hablada del viaje... parecía una buena oportunidad para grabar opiniones y saludos de la gente, sólo para entretenerme un rato y sin una idea clara de cómo hacerlo.
So, i started :P ...and it was going pretty good (i got a nice conversation with Dag and Anna Katarina from the Norwegian Contingent) until there was this guy (from Southafrica, maybe... but african for sure!) named "B" (hiding his real name, just in case) who called me with this hands asking me to approach to him. I was a bit scared... 'cause when child i read about cannibals and stuff... and didn't want to be eaten at that time (i never got to meet any african before!). Anyway, I approached to him... and he asked me: Así que empecé :P y todo iba muy bien hasta que este chico (quizá de Sudáfrica, pero africano de hecho) llamado Bash me llamó con un gesto. Yo estaba un poco asustando... pues de niño leí acerca de los canívales y sus tradiciones... y no quería ser comido en ese momento (y nunca antes había conocido a un africano!). Sin embargo, me aproximé... y me preguntó:
B: What are you doing?
F: (Oh no.... i have done something unrespectful towards another culture, i thought...)
F: Well... I'm... you know... gathering greetings in different languages... saying hi to people...
B: Why you do that?
F: Dammit... is he some kind of african gurú... or philosopher? Is he against technology? i thought, nerviously.
F: I think it would be good to recall the moments, the people here...
B: You should not recall on this... (pointing at the recorder), but here... (pointing to his head, u can imagine).
F: I don't have good memory... and this helps me to remember (plus a peruvian nice smile).
(Bash got angry eyes... so before he ate me i started running to the other fellow southamericans.
B: ¿Qué haces?
F: (Oh no, he hecho algo irrespetuoso hacia otras culturas, pensé)
F: Bueno... yo estoy... reuniendo saludos en diferentes idiomas, saludando a la gente... tú sabes...
B: ¿Por qué haces eso?
F: Maldición, quizá es una especie de gurú o filósofo. "¿Está en contra de la tecnología?" pensé nerviosamente.
F: Pensé que sería bueno recordar el momento, la gente aquí...
B: No deberías acordarte aquí (señalando la grabadora), sino aquí... (señalando su cabeza, se pueden imaginar).
F: No tengo buena memoria... y esto me ayuda a recordar (+ sonrisa peruana agradable). (Parece que a Bash no le gustó mi comentario, por lo que huí donde mis compañeros sudamericanos)
at this point is important to mention that i didn't take any camera with me from Lima :( what i consider a big mistake by my side. i sent some emails asking if my friends got some pics from those dates, hope i can get some... and what i wrote here about thoughts and more stuff about africans it is just a joke based on prejudices, i have some friends in Africa and they have great sense of humour... don't take that seriously ;)
es momento de decir que no llevé cámara desde Lima :( lo cual considero un error gravísmo de mi parte. he tratado de conseguir algunas fotos con mis patas del Moot, pero es algo complicado... y sobre la conversa con Bash, espero que sea obvio que es muy a la broma y en buena onda, tengo amigos africanos con gran sentido del humor, por favor no tomarlo en serio ;)

Go check the World Organization of the Scout Movement and check for some evens, if you want...
But if you are a scout, i really really tell you: go to an international activity, but be responsible with the documents u need to handle ;) It made me very sad not to be able to go to Kenya for the last Moot :( Puedes ver la página de la Organización Mundial del Movimiento Scout y revisar algunos eventos, si quieres... pero si eres scout, te digo... y te lo digo muy bien: ve a una actividad internacional, y se cuidadoso con los documentos que manejes ;) Me dio mucha pena no poder ir a Kenya para el último Moot :(
